Between July 14th and 18th, CENIMAT|i3N hosted another vibrant edition of Semana Ciência Viva no Laboratório, welcoming 50 9 to 12th grade students who participated in 14 research projects developed within our laboratories. Guided by a team of 36 monitors, students engaged in innovative and interdisciplinary projects, ranging from laser-induced graphene to fully printed weather stations on paper.
This initiative, developed in partnership with Ciência Viva, has been running at CENIMAT|i3N since 2009. Over the years, the program has hosted 970 students, offering them the opportunity to interact directly with advanced research in materials science and engineering, and to discover what it means to be a scientist.
As emphasized by Professor Elvira Fortunato in her recent opinion article entitled “Trading the beach towel for a lab coat: 26 years of discovering and playing with science”,
“At CENIMAT – i3N, our labs are always open, in collaboration with Ciência Viva, to continue sharing what moves us the most: the passion for science.”
The program remains a cornerstone of CENIMAT|i3N’s commitment to science outreach and education, helping to build bridges between the scientific community and younger generations.
